Institute for Automation and Systems Engineering View mapThe efficient use of renewable energy and water resources is a major problem facing the world. The scientific treatment of sustainability issues generally requires the solution of complex problems. These problems usually include uncertainties in demand, supply, price, energy availability etc. For instance, sustainable energies such as wind and solar power are subject to many uncertainties since wind speed varies significantly throughout the year and solar intensity can differ depending on time of the day or location. To ensure that a power plant can meet the energy demand at least to a certain confidence level, the Chance Constrained Optimization (CCOPT) method can be used. The result provides optimal and reliable decisions for system operation and design under uncertainty. Thus, a significant increase in both economic efficiency and reliability of systems can be achieved compared to conventional decisions.
This workshop aims to provide a foundation for the theory and application of CCOPT, particularly in the context of sustainability systems, e.g. renewable energy and water network systems. Furthermore, the joint research and development cooperation between TU Ilmenau and AIMS Rwanda will be enhanced.
