Seifu Endris Yimer is originally from Ethiopia. He obtained a B.Ed. in mathematics from Addis Ababa University and an M.Sc. degree from Haramaya University in mathematics, Ethiopia. He completed his Ph.D. studies in Applied Mathematics (Optimization) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi, Thailand. He is now a DAAD postdoctoral research fellow working on a project, „System Optimization for Sustainable Resource Utilization,“ with the university cooperation between AIMS-Rwanda and TU Ilmenau.
Before joining the DAAD project, he had been working at Debre Berhan University as a full-time staff member in the Department of Mathematics since 2008, working on both academic and research duties.
He is currently working on the theory, algorithms, and techniques of (applied) optimization problems with a particular focus on „Proximal Splitting Multi-objective Optimization Methods for Sustainable and Equitable Distribution and Management of Water Resources“.
Other key topics of interest:
- non-convex optimization,
- machine/deep learning,
- convex geometry,
- stochastic optimization,
- non-smooth analysis for optimization.
